Medicare

Medicare is the federal health insurance program for:

People who are 65 or older. Certain younger people with disabilities.

People with end-stage kidney disease (chronic kidney failure requiring dialysis or transplantation, sometimes called ESRD).

Different parts of Medicare help cover specific services:

Part A is hospital insurance.

Part B helps pay for medical services that Part A doesn't cover.

Part C is called Medicare Advantage. If you have Parts A and B, you can select this option to receive all health care through a provider organization, such as an HMO.

Part D is prescription drug coverage. Help pay for some medicines.

What is Medigap?

Medigap is a Medicare supplement insurance policy. Helps pay expenses like deductibles, copays, and coinsurance. To get a Medigap policy, you must have Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) and pay the private insurance company a monthly premium for your Medigap policy, in addition to the monthly Part B premium that you pay to Medicare.

ObamaCare

ObamaCare (Affordable Care Act) is a health reform in the US that expands and improves access to healthcare and reduces spending through regulations and taxes.

What does ObamaCare do?

The Affordable Care Act does a lot of very important things, including that: It offers a number of new benefits, rights, and protections to Americans regarding their health care. Establishes a Health Insurance Marketplace (HealthCare.Gov) where Americans can purchase federally regulated and subsidized health insurance during open registration.

Extends Medicaid to all adults in many states.

Improves Medicare for the elderly and those with long-term disabilities.

Extends employer coverage to millions of workers.

It requires that most people be covered from the beginning of 2014.

For those who are not, it helps to obtain exceptions or pay a fee (this fee is 0 as of 2019 in most states).

It introduces new taxes and tax credits, among many other provisions.
